Mary Pat DeWald
Mary
Pat DeWald, Director of Evergreen Nursing Services, is an Advanced
Practice Nurse with over 20 years of experience in Health Care as a
Licensed Professional Registered Nurse.
She
began her nursing career in the early 1980’s and became licensed as a
Registered Nurse in 1985. In 1997 she completed a graduate certificate
in Forensic Nursing and in 2000 completed her Nurse Practitioner in
Women’s Health. She further reached her educational goals receiving a
Masters of Science in Nursing in 2005 and continues to work towards
obtaining a Doctorate Degree.
Mary Pat has
progressed throughout her years in health care not only in general
practice, but also became board certified in Critical Care and in
Sexual Assault as a Forensic Nurse Examiner. She
has recognized that the varied nature of the work complemented her
autonomous style as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN).
She
has continued to expand her knowledge in Health Care from cradle to
grave and this advanced knowledge has enabled her to work alongside
colleagues in a variety of settings including but not limited to acute
care, critical care, emergency room, long term care, home care, hospice
and private consulting.
Her areas of special interest include
individual health risk assessments, health behavior education,
prevention and intervention, health and wellness programs, chronic
disease management, hospice and caring for the caregiver.
She
has a particular interest in education and has been involved in
teaching activities with patients, staff in health care centers and the
general public. She has been creative and innovative in working with
mountain and rural communities addressing specific health care issues
including but not limited to domestic violence, child abuse and neglect
and sexual assault. She also has been instrumental in leading trainings
about secondary resiliency, vicarious trauma and caring for the
caregiver. She has presented locally, nationally and internationally
for diverse audiences.
